Cambogia, Phnom Penh, 3 marzo 2023: Kem Sokha, leader del principale partito dell’opposizione democratica cambogiana, il Cambodia National Rescue Party, è stato condannato per “tradimento” a 27 anni di arresti domiciliari, con la possibilità di incontrare soltanto i membri della sua famiglia. Il giudice Koy Sao ha inoltre revocato all’imputato il diritto di voto e di candidarsi. Kem Sokha era stato arrestato nel 2017 con l’accusa di aver cospirato con gli Stati Uniti per rovesciare il Primo Ministro Hun Sen, un ex khmer rosso al potere in Cambogia da 38 anni.
Cambodian opposition leader Kem Sokha sentenced to 27 years of house arrest
Cambodia, Phnom Penh, March 3, 2023: Kem Sokha, leader of the main Cambodian democratic opposition party, Cambodia National Rescue Party, was sentenced for “treason” to 27 years of house arrest, with the possibility of meeting only members of his family. Judge Koy Sao also revoked the defendant’s right to vote and run for office. Kem Sokha was arrested in 2017 on charges of conspiring with the United States to overthrow Prime Minister Hun Sen, a former Khmer Rouge who has been ruling Cambodia for 38 years.
