Svizzera, Ginevra, 23 marzo 2023: Poco dopo aver preso la parola in un dibattito a Ginevra al Consiglio ONU per i Diritti Umani per denunciare la condizione della minoranza uigura nella Regione autonoma dello Xinjiang in Cina, il discorso del presidente del Congresso Mondiale Uiguro, Dolkun Isa, è stato interrotto dal Rappresentante presso le Nazioni Unite della Repubblica Popolare Cinese che ha accusato Isa di separatismo anti-cinese violento e ha chiesto di “togliere la parola a quell’oratore e verificare le sue credenziali”. La richiesta cinese è stata sostenuta dal Rappresentante dell’Eritrea. Il leader uiguro ha comunque potuto terminare il suo discorso grazie all’intervento del Rappresentante degli Stati Uniti.
Chinese Representative interrupts Uyghur leader’s speech at UNHRC
Switzerland, Geneva, March 23, 2023: World Uyghur Congress President, Dolkun Isa, took the floor in a debate in Geneva at the UN Human Rights Council to raise the plight of the Uyghur minority in China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region. A few seconds into his speech, he was interrupted by the UN Representative of the People’s Republic of China who accused Isa of violent anti-Chinese separatist activities. He requested “to terminate the statement of that speaker and to verify his qualification”. The Chinese request was supported by the Representative of Eritrea. However, Dolkun Isa was able to deliver his speech in full thanks to the intervention of the US Representative.
