Letti distrutti, camere sporche e abbandonate, ambienti fatiscenti. Ma le foto non sono scattate in Colombia, bensì in Venezuela. A pubblicarle, associandole a strutture sanitarie del Dipartimento colombiano di Antiochia, non un giornalista o propagandista esperto in fabbricazione di fake news, bensì direttamente Gustavo Petro, il neopresidente colombiano di estrema sinistra. Un caso di disinformazione di una certa gravità, specie in un momento in cui il neopresidente colombiano di estrema sinistra cerca di riformare un sistema sanitario, tra polemiche e resistenze del Parlamento e di alcune forze politiche che lo sostengono. Le immagini pubblicate dall’account del Presidente, come hanno dimostrato facilmente altri utenti dei social network, vengono dal Venezuela, in particolare dall’ospedale Vargas a Caracas (oggetto, tra gli altri, di un servizio del canale tedesco DW nel 2017). Non è la prima volta che Petro e il suo movimento incorrono in polemiche sul piano della comunicazione. Durante la campagna elettorale del 2022, polemica fu la divulgazione di video di alcune riunioni del team della campagna dell’allora candidato Petro, in cui l’esperto di comunicazione Sebastian Guanumen (nel cui curriculum figurano periodi di studio presso l’Università dei Popoli a Mosca) sosteneva che si dovesse “oltrepassare un po’ i limiti dell’etica” nella strategia comunicativa.

Colombia: fake news directly from the President’s twitter account
Destroyed beds, dirty and abandoned rooms, dilapidated environments. But the photos are not taken in Colombia, but in Venezuela. Who publish them, associating them with health facilities of the Colombian Department of Antiochia? Not a journalist or propagandist with expertise in fake news, but Gustavo Petro, the far-left new Colombian president. A case of disinformation of a certain gravity, especially at a time when the new far-left Colombian president is trying to reform the national health system, amid controversy and resistance from Parliament and some political forces that support him. The images published by the President’s account, as other users of the social networks have easily demonstrated, come from Venezuela, in particular from the Vargas hospital in Caracas (subject, among others, of a report by the German channel DW in 2017). It is not the first time that Petro and his movement have run into controversie sas regards their communication patterns. During the 2022 electoral campaign, a controversy raised from the disclosure of videos of some meetings of the Petro’s campaign team, in which the communication expert Sebastian Guanumen (whose curriculum includes periods of study at the University of Peoples in Moscow) argued that it would be the moment to “go a bit beyond the limits of ethics” in the communication
